The skills, strategies, and knowledge I have gained from this course will help me in many ways. As of now, I am the CTE department head and teach business classes. I will take with me what I have learned and implement it in my departmental meetings and classes. I think the section that sticks out the most to me is Module 8 – Honing Communication Skills. Communication (whether verbal, body language, email, etc) can be powerful. You want to set the tone immediately (at the beginning of a meeting or class period). I totally believe in the sandwich method – start & end with a positive note.

I learned so much from this course and plan to apply nearly everything I’ve gained. I will incorporate ALDO and Solo Taxonomy more in my practice, as they provide teachers with a structured checklist for designing highly effective lessons. These frameworks also help educators assess student understanding and track progress more effectively.

The Five Stages of Effective Coaching gave me a whole new perspective on the role of an instructional coach. Despite teaching for several years, I’ve never had a coach build meaningful relationships with me or my colleagues. I believe that by building strong relationships and clearly defining my role, I can help teachers understand what I do and assure them that I am there to support them.

I also appreciate the emphasis on adaptability—learning that it’s okay to adjust my coaching cycles based on teacher and student needs. The ELLR Coaching Model is another fantastic tool I plan to implement.

Most importantly, this course taught me how to truly partner with teachers—whether by curating resources, creating newsletters, modeling lessons, co-teaching, and more. I now feel equipped to help teachers meet their goals and support them on their professional learning journey.
