The purpose of this course is to provide you with the “magic formula” of lesson design that supports your efforts at teaching and learning in the K-12 and adult classroom. In addition to powerful, evidence-based instructional strategies, you will learn how to keep culture in mind when structuring learning opportunities.
Self-Paced, Online Course
Evidence-Based Teaching is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.
Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system (Instructure’s Canvas) that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order. The modules can be found below.

|Module 1||Introducing the Magic Formula||Is there a magic formula to designing high-impact, high-touch teaching and learning environments? Yes, there is. In this module, you will explore key elements of the magic formula before doing a deeper dive within each of the modules.|
|Module 2||Teaching with the Brain in Mind||In this module, learn how brain-based learning fits into the magic formula and how it connects to John Hattie’s high-effect size instructional strategies. What is the process by which long-term memories are formed in the brain? You’ll add some strategies to your repertoire in this module.|
|Module 3||Opening Hearts and Minds||In this module, discover how cultural perspectives mold our theory of how the world works. This schema sets up our brains, and our hearts, to receive new ideas and information. Being aware of students’ cultural background, as well as learning to leverage social and emotional learning (SEL), can determine success or failure for your students. Learn specific strategies that break down barriers and align to students’ cultural background.|
|Module 4||Designing Evidence-Based Learning Opportunities||Too often, instructional strategies are based on popular research, that is, research that shows student growth from zero. But students aren’t standing still. In this module, you will see two approaches to lesson design that build on five different sources of scientific evidence for how children learn. This module also introduces other essential understandings for ensuring success in a hyper-connected environment.|
|Module 5||Putting It All Together||Ready to put all the pieces together? In this module, discover how the elements of the magic formula come together. You will see examples at each stage of learning, as well as get access to a wide variety of digital tools.|
