About the TCEA Educator Scholarships
TCEA Scholarships are awarded each year to deserving teachers and students studying technology in education. TCEA encourages and applauds members who choose to continue learning about technology, and scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals seeking continuing education. Scholarships are presented alongside TCEA’s annual Convention & Exposition in February 2022.
TCEA offers scholarships for the following groups:
Robert E. Knight Professional Scholarship
The Robert E. Knight Professional Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor TCEA’s first executive director. Robert Knight first served TCEA as executive secretary and then served as executive director from 1992 to 1998. He had the vision to recognize technology would be more and more important in the teaching and learning of our nation’s students. He was very instrumental in TCEA’s growth, both in terms of membership and influence, and was a driving force in making TCEA a success.
These $1,000 scholarships assist practicing educators in achieving a higher education degree in the field of educational or instructional technology. One graduate scholarship is available per year.
Eligibility
- Must be a member of TCEA. Non-members may submit membership dues at the time of entry.
- Be employed full-time in the field of education
- Use the scholarship money for expenses incurred in achieving a higher education degree (masters or doctorate) in the fields of educational or instructional technology.
- Have not previously received the scholarship.
- Active TCEA board members, staff, or family are not eligible to receive this award.
Application Requirements
- Complete Scholarship Entry Form.
- Submit two letters of recommendation, not to exceed one page each.
- From your college: college professor
- From your employer: administrator, supervisor, or department chair
- Submit a one-page personal profile including:
- Number of years teaching
- Awards and honors
- Philosophy of the importance of technology in education
- Proof of enrollment in masters or doctoral program in the fields of educational or instructional technology.
- Letter from college advisor or other college official confirming enrollment OR
- College transcript that indicates major
Richard A. Brown Student Scholarship
Richard A. Brown Memorial Scholarship for Students: These $1,000 scholarships are awarded to deserving students who are pursuing a career in education. The scholarships were named for the late Richard A. Brown.
Eligibility
- Be a full time student at an accredited college or university (12 hours or more)
- Have successfully completed at least 24 hours of college
- Be pursuing a career in education
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a scale of 4.0
- Have not received the scholarship previously
- Active TCEA board members, staff, or family are not eligible to receive this award.
Application Requirements
- Completed Scholarship Entry Form
- A statement of personal and family information including financial need, if any.
- Three letters of recommendation (not to exceed one page)
- Two should be from past or present instructors, department heads, or administrators
- Individual of choice
- A copy of your college transcript to date
- A one page personal profile including
- Philosophy of the importance of technology in education
- Goals in the field of education
Jeri Hodges Leadership Scholarship
The Jeri Hodges Leadership Scholarship was established in 2012 to honor a former TCEA board member and leader in the field of instructional technology. From her work with the Teacher STar Chart to the TATN event, so much of what Jeri did paved the way for those of us that have followed her.
These $500 scholarships are for use in attending professional development activities that will increase knowledge of educational technology.
Eligibility
- Be a member of TCEA (Non-members may submit membership and dues at the time of entry.)
- Be employed full time in the field of education
- Use the money to attend professional development activities that will increase knowledge of educational technology
- Have not received the scholarship previously
- Active TCEA board members, staff, or family are not eligible to receive this award.
