TCEA State Computer Science and State Robotics Contests Cancelled; 3D Design Contest Continues as Virtual Event
March 13, 2020
Austin, TX: In response to concerns about the potential spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the TCEA Executive Director announced today the cancellation of the State Computer Science Contest, scheduled for March 21, 2020, and the State Robotics Contests, scheduled for April 25, 2020. Registration fees will be fully refunded to schools registered for the canceled events. The 2020 3D Design Contest will continue as it is a virtual event. Moving forward, TCEA will consider other upcoming events on a case-by-case basis.
“The safety of our attendees and staff are of paramount importance,” said TCEA Executive Director Lori Gracey. “After consulting the latest information from local, state, national, and international health authorities, we are cancelling these events out of concern for our students, teachers, and staff, as well as concern for public health more generally.”
“This was not an easy decision,” Gracey continued, “but we believe it’s the right decision.”
Gracey also confirmed that TCEA board and staff will continue to carefully monitor the changing situation, and may alter future plans in order to protect the safety of presenters, staff, and attendees of TCEA events.
Schools registered for the Computer Science and Robotics contests are eligible for a full refund of registration fees. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact us at [email protected].
