Computer Science Contest

TCEA and the TA/CS SIG are proud to announce the TCEA Computer Science Contest.

In 2019, we hosted a state-level contest open to all to computer science students across the state. Early in 2020, we will host five local Super Area contests, where teams will compete for a chance to advance to the State contest later in the spring of 2020.

The TCEA Computer Science Contest is a competition for secondary students. Teams of three, representing their school, work to solve real-world programming problems. By using critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving, along with other 21st century skills, teams challenge each other to take it to the next level. This competition is for advanced and novice teams alike.

State Contest Date and Registration Information

Contest Date: In response to concerns about the potential spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, TCEA cancelled the State Computer Science Contest.

Registration: February 17 – March 13, 2020

Registration fee: $70 per team

**For both Super Area and State contests, payments or purchase orders must be received by the date of the contest or the team will not be able to participate.

Getting Started

The sponsor must have an active TCEA Membership and all team members must sign a release form.
Teams will need a laptop computer with a Java IDE installed.

Policy for Changes and Cancellations

TCEA accepts American Express, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, checks, and school purchase orders (POs) for payment. Purchase orders must include the following information: registrants’ names, a breakdown of coverage, a dollar amount for each item, and a total amount the purchase order.

Payment or purchase order must be received for your game materials (i.e. game pieces and mats) to ship.

Payment or purchase order must be received by the date of the contest, or your team(s) will not be able to participate.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be made in writing via email to [email protected] no later than five days before the contest. Cancellations received by the deadline will receive a full refund. Cancellations received after the deadline, but before the contest, will receive a refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, per team. After the event has taken place, no refunds will be given.

Refund Policy
If you registered with a purchase order, your purchase order will be charged the cancellation fee. Refunds will be processed after the event has taken place.

Changes to Registration
Changes in registration may only be made via email to [email protected]. The email must include the sponsor’s name and a list of items to be changed. A confirmation email will be sent to the registrant once changes are made.

Responsible Party
Regardless of the situation, it is the responsibility of the individual registrant to pay any balance that was not paid for by the employer, including cancellation charges.
