Course Modules
Gather Assessment-Based Feedback: You already know the power of feedback in the classroom. The problem is, feedback efforts can fall short. In this module, you will revisit the research of how, when, and why to offer feedback and the three components that make feedback meaningful.
Embrace Gamification for Retrieval Practice: “Feedback” is the answer to many questions teachers have today. Gamification of classroom activities can inspire and engage students. You can also use it as a way to engage students in retrieval practice. It makes offering students feedback a game that they can do with you or with each other. In this module, learn about Blooket, a powerful, free tool.
Gain Insights into Students’ Thinking: Video tools capture student learning when embedded in rich context. Open-ended screencasts empower students to record themselves in the completion of a task. Each provides insight into the students’ ability to direct their own learning; you get to see and hear what they are thinking. In this module, learn how to use Zigazoo Classroom to gain insights into students’ thinking. You will see how this digital tool can foster goal setting and self-assessment and how it can scaffold the next steps in student learning.
Create Interactive Puzzles: Take advantage of modern puzzle-making tools like Vimboard to create interactive learning experiences that include feedback-style activities. Students can design questions and answers for others in class and then respond to the questions. Their correct responses will uncover an image and provide answers to critical questions such as “Is my answer correct/incorrect?” “What did I do well?” and “Where did I go wrong?”
Annotate Those Videos: What better way than video to convey ideas and gain insight into students’ thinking? Much of the media students consume depends on video. Take advantage of Reclipped, a digital tool for video annotation and analysis. Encourage students to annotate videos they watch with their thoughts and questions and then check those notes. This can provide insight into issues students may have about the content.
