Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order.
Course Modules
Micro:bit Mastery: You will begin by answering the two most important questions: What is a micro:bit? How can I use this technology tool in the K-12 classroom? This module will also give you a brief history of this small programmable computer and you will learn how to navigate to the MakeCode micro:bit coding website.
Simulator Essentials: The MakeCode website provides a simulator that allows users to test their code before uploading it to the micro:bit device. The Simulator controls, basic blocks, and starting cards included in this module will make it easy to get started with the MakeCode programming. You will also have access to the MakeCode Blocks Catalog that can help make sense out of the coding blocks used throughout the course.
Blocks Exploration: In this module, you will download the program to the physical micro:bit as you work through several Starter Codes. The Starter Codes are for both V1 and V2 micro:bits and can be printed off for classroom use. Additional Starter Codes are included for the new features of the V2 micro:bit.
Code Boost: This module will continue to build capacity for coding with micro:bits. You will learn about variables and functions. Chuck a Duck and the VIP Alarm will also let you try your hand at projects involving two micro:bits.
Jigsaw Pro: In this module, you will learn a powerful instructional strategy. This proven, evidence-based strategy increases student achievement when employed in a consistent manner. Use this strategy with your students to introduce micro:bit. It will provide them with a learning strategy they can depend on for future projects.
