Scratch Computational Thinking

This course helps educators use Scratch to teach computational thinking across subjects while engaging students in presenting, animating, and gamifying lessons. You’ll learn to create animations, design math resources, develop games, and pose and solve computational thinking challenges for your students. Scratch is free to use and introduces block coding that works across a variety of devices, making it a versatile tool for classroom instruction.

Self-Paced Online Course

Scratch Computational Thinking is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.

Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order.

Getting Started with Scratch: In this module, you will learn the basics of Scratch programming and how to navigate the Scratch interface. You will also explore the key concepts of computational thinking and how they can be taught through Scratch.

Creating Animations: Learn how to create simple and complex animations in Scratch that can be used to illustrate concepts across different subject areas.

Building Interactive Games: Discover how to design and build interactive games that engage students while teaching important computational concepts.

Developing Math Resources: Explore how to create mathematical instructional resources that help visualize and teach mathematical concepts through interactive programming.

Integrating Across the Curriculum: Learn strategies for implementing Scratch projects across different subject areas, promoting cross-curricular learning and computational thinking.
