Coding in the Elementary Grades
This course introduces educators to coding tools and resources suitable for elementary students and helps you adapt them for classroom use. You’ll build foundational skills for both online and offline coding, explore a variety of tools and apps with guidance on best practices, and access curated resources—including blogs, books, and videos—to extend your learning and support student engagement.

Self-Paced Online Course

Coding in the Elementary Grades is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.

Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order.

 

Course Modules

Research: Focus on helpful research to support the value and implementation of coding in elementary grades.

Offline Coding Activities: Explore various offline activities that support coding concepts without requiring devices.

Online Coding Apps and Tools: Discover coding apps and tools that can be used by students on tablets and/or computers.

Assessment: Learn about performance-based assessment and rubrics to guide student learning in coding.

Coding Across the Content Areas: Integrate coding across curriculum with resources for math, science, ELA, and social studies.
