Game-Based Learning

The purpose of this online, self-paced course is to assist educators in getting more comfortable with game-based learning. This course covers the basics and shares a wide variety of tips and suggestions.

Self-Paced Online Course

Game-Based Learning is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.

Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system (Instructure’s Canvas) that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order. The modules can be found below.

Certification Modules

Module	Title	Description
Module 1	What is Game-Based Learning?	Perhaps you've heard of game-based learning (GBL) or maybe you haven't. Either way, we want to talk about what it is, the benefits of it, and how it differs from gamification. This instructional strategy can be used in any subject matter that you like; all it takes is some imagination and your educational expertise.
Module 2	So Many Games, What Do I Do?	So you may be saying to yourself, "I'm not a gamer. How am I supposed to do game-based learning?" In this module, we will share how you can be successful with GBL without being an avid gamer. We have structured this course using a game that anyone can teach with.
Module 3	Roki Part 1	Since we want this course to be an active experience, we will begin your first dive into game-based learning using a game called Roki. In this module, you will create your very own lesson starter for your specific subject matter.
Module 4	Roki Part 2	We are continuing our active journey, learning from one another, as we build our lesson starters to utilize in the classroom.
Module 5	Final Reflection	We will take some time to wrap up, share resources, network, and reflect on what we have learned and what you should do once you step back into your classroom.
