The purpose of this course is to expand your list of successful instructional strategies with the jigsaw method and broaden your knowledge of a variety of digital tools to support teaching and learning. The big plus for using the jigsaw method is to explore a process that is proven to lead to greater student engagement and retention. This course is designed for teachers and instructional leaders to give you the information and resources to plan for and get the jigsaw method up and running. It is great to know that something can have such a powerful impact on teaching and learning.

Self-Paced Online Course
Jigsaw Method is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.
Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system (Instructure’s Canvas) that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order. The modules can be found below.
|Module 1||Introducing the Jigsaw Method||In this module, you will gain an understanding of John Hattie’s research and discover why it is important in education. You will get an overview of the jigsaw method and will understand how it is used to accelerate student learning. You will begin considering how the jigsaw method can work for your students or adult learners.|
|Module 2||Taking a Closer Look at the Jigsaw Pieces||In this module, you will take a closer look at each of the steps of the jigsaw method. You will find examples of effective and less effective approaches to this method. You will explore possibilities of adapting the method to meet your students’ needs. You will get comfortable with the process and consider adaptations needed to meet your learners’ needs.|
|Module 3||Planning Your Strategy||In this module, you will determine the needed steps and planning considerations to ensure that the jigsaw process is completed successfully with all of your students. You will explore strategies for chunking content, preparing for group work, and determining the best time and frequency for using the jigsaw method.|
|Module 4||Connecting Jigsaw and Digital Tools||In this module, you will watch demonstrations of sample online tools to use at various points in the jigsaw process, ensuring that all students’ learning needs are addressed throughout the lesson. You will explore an actual lesson on using the jigsaw method in the Canvas learning management system. You will have an opportunity to use an online tool on your own. Videos and other resources are available to guide you through the use of the tools.|
|Module 5||Determining Other Important Pieces and Next Steps||In the final module of this course, you will dive deeper into the jigsaw method to ensure that you leave the course with everything you need to successfully use this strategy with your students or adult learners. You will gain information about best practices, tips, tricks, and lessons learned for planning for and using this method. You will hear about common issues, explore solutions, and find many resources to carry you forward with your next steps.|
