Screencasting for Educators

The purpose of this online, self-paced course is to assist educators in getting more comfortable with screencasting. Screencasting has become a necessity for remote teachers and blended learning educators. This course covers the basics and shares a wide variety of tips and suggestions for getting it done. Knowing how to create engaging video screencasts, including audio and video components from a variety of copyright-free media can make viewing better for students.

Self-Paced Online Course

Screencasting for Educators is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.

Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system (Instructure’s Canvas) that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order. The modules can be found below.

Course Modules

Module	Title	Description
Module 1	Screencasting for Instructional Purposes	In this module, we'll revisit some key concepts, including high-effect size instructional strategies. Pairing the right strategy with the technology can make all the difference as to whether your video is going to be impactful or not. We'll also discuss how to best handle assessment.
Module 2	Become a ScreencastEDU Maker	Wondering how to approach screencasting or where to start? In this module, we'll dive into a few handy tips you can take advantage of that will have you screencasting in no time. We'll also address a technical hurdle that plagues many screencasters. That is, where to put your videos online.
Module 3	Screencasting Tools	In this module, we'll dig into the variety of screencasting tools available online. There are many available to you, an almost bewildering array. Let's take a close and friendly look at each of my favorite screencasting tools and why you would want to use it (or not).
Module 4	Video Editing Lite	Need some tips on video editing? In this module, you'll banish the unknown about video editing using a free, open source tool known as Shotcut. This no cost tool makes editing videos a snap. We'll also discuss other tools available to you online that you can use, if your video isn't too large. Splitting, slicing, exporting videos are some of the big ideas in this module.
Module 5	Screencasting on the Go	In this module, learn about other exciting video resources and tools you can take advantage of for mobile devices, including smartphones. You can do quite a bit on a smartphone or tablet with iOS or Android. And, since this is the last module, you will get a chance to connect to a wider community of learners, get your digital badge and certificate.
