Strategies That Work, Part 1: Core Components
The purpose of the course is for you to adapt evidence-based instructional strategies for your own use in the classroom. The content is intended for those who may or may not be familiar with John Hattie’s work as elaborated on in Visible Learning. This particular course focuses on building a foundation on evidence-based strategies that encompass the entire teaching and learning process.

Self-Paced Online Course
Strategies That Work, Part 1: Core Components is a self-paced, online program. Participants can begin anytime and go at their own speed throughout the program.
Upon enrollment, you will receive a program invitation email from TCEA’s learning management system (Instructure’s Canvas) that will give you access to the self-paced course. Within the course, you will find modules that must be moved through in sequential order. The modules can be found below.
|Module 1||Introducing Evidence-based Instructional Strategies||In this module, participants learn about John Hattie’s research as explained in Visible Learning. We will also explore several ways to organize high-effect size instructional strategies.|
|Module 2||Understanding Core Learning||In this module, you’ll explore core learning strategies. These core strategies accelerate student growth in a school year. These strategies have the potential to accelerate learning in your school and/or your classroom. This module provides background knowledge on several strategies, such as Teacher Credibility, Success Criteria, Teacher Clarity, and more. In other modules, we'll explore three popular learning strategies, such as feedback, teacher clarity and spaced vs massed practice.|
|Module 3||Feedback||In this module, we’ll explore why John Hattie says, “"Feedback is the most powerful single modification that enhances achievement.” We will also discuss feedback options during remote learning.|
|Module 4||Teacher Clarity||In this module, we’ll focus on establishing teacher clarity in remote learning. How can you answer those important questions around teacher clarity, and get students to own those?|
|Module 5||Spaced vs Massed Practice||In this module, we delve into spaced vs massed practice. There are many terms used to describe "spaced practice." For example, some common terms include: distributed practice, spaced learning, interleaving practice. These terms point to the same concept or idea. That is, how can we break up learning into manageable chunks to ensure long-term retention of information?|
